Artist’s Statement
“For me, art is about telling a story. My passions and interests, ranging from real-world cultures modern and ancient alike, to classic literature, and even comics and cartoons, all stem from the idea of telling stories and culminate as the source of inspiration I use to tell my stories–full of joy, life, sadness, loss, and all things that we experience as humans–in a language that I can share with others.
Painting and drawing are my preferred mediums when creating art. I enjoy using vibrant colors and high contrast to grab the attention of the viewer. I allow my strokes made in either medium to flow based on the emotion of the piece, allowing me to break away from what is often a rigid state of mind. This combination of rigid and spontaneous lends itself to a rather graphic look that is especially apparent in my drawings, reflecting much of my early inspiration from comic illustrators and animators alike.”
